A POINT ELUCIDATED
MR BRUCE EXPLAINS. CAust. and N.Z. (’ablet. (Received Jan. o, 2 p.m.) Ottawa, Jan. 4. A point raised at the press interview following Mr Bruce’s luncheon address at the Canadian Club was whether the Imperial Economic Conference bad not- been a failure because it did not touch preference. Mr Bruce replied that while personally lie believed that question must ultimately be solved before inter-Tmporial trade could reach its greatest height, He felt quite satisfied with the economic work of the Conference, particularly its broad plans for co-operation between Britain find her Dominions relative to science and industry. He, added that he felt that the ultimate attainment of a preferential scheme, which how naturally could not be- discussed, due to the Baldwin Government’s’'policy, would He reached by broadening th enow existing' scheme for safeguarding industry in' Britain so that it similarly applied Throughout the Empire.
