PRISONER'S GOOD FORTUNE. SCENE AT PRISON GATES (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). Rome, Nov. 20. An unusual scene occurred at the gates of Padua prison when Nino Gilli, a poor tradesman who was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for fraudulent bankruptcy, was released. His wife, relatives and a crowd of friends arrived in motor cars and whirled Gilli away oy fully to elaborate celebrations. The cause of the jubilation was that Gilli, while in prison, unexpectedly inherited a large -estate and a- bank account amounting To about £173,000 from a grand aunt iu Califoria with whom lie had never corresponded. Gilli, since the news has been confirmed, has been unable to sleep, but lie was treated with all consideration possible under the prison rules. He had, however, to serve his sentence, less three months remitted for good conduct. He announces that he will build a- hospital in his .native town of Ferara and already has applied for a passport to California.
