TARANAKI RAILWAY
GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED Good progress is, being made with the advance work of the construction of the Taranaki Alain Trunk Railway. ‘‘Operating from the camp on the Tangarakau Flat.” stated Mr 'l' At. Ball, district engineer of the Public Works Department, “the eon erete bridge to span the Tangarakuu river, of which supplies and material for the prosecution of the line will he carried, is flow completed and ready for use. This bridge .although of a substantial nature, is not intended to carry the completed line, which crosses the river by a proper railway bridge, to be constructed some little distance to the right. The bridge just finished will ultimately become a crossing for vehicular traffic.
‘‘Formation work for the const‘notion of the big line over the first ridge is practically finished, and i lie engineers will presently tackle cue problem of raising a powerful electric winch to the topmost point. Good progress has also been made on the fiat itself, where the powerhoine is nearing completion, and other works necessarv are well in hand.”
