The Council placed on record its appreciation of the .services rendered by Mr W. McLennan, who has resigned as a member of the Council, during iiTs term of office.

KERBSIDE PETROL PUMPS. ‘‘This matter opens • lip the question of whether or not this council ■should grant permission for the installation of kerbside petrol pumps in the Oroua County,” said the chairman, when three applications Tn this connection were tabled. C’r. MeElroy .said he could see no reason why subsidised pumps should not ho allowed if they were to serve the travelling public with petrol at a lowe,. rate and give quick and efficient service.

Cr. Green questioned whether or not there would lie any legal difficulties- in granting permission, the chairman replying to the effect that this matter would rest entirely with the local body concerned. (The pumps would, of course, be installed at the pleasure of the Council. In view of the benefit to be derived by ratepayers and the general public from these pumps il allowed to he installed in various parts of the country, it was resolved that Messrs Eyre and Croehetto and A. D. Baiiekhnm (Ashhurst) and if. Seheidt (Bunnytliorpe) be written to and informed that the Council offers no objection other than that the pumps he installed in such a manner as to meet the approval of the engineer.
