ELECTORAL REGISTRATION DEFAULTERS MAY AVOID TROUBLE STATEMENT BY MR COATES (Press Association Telegram). Wellington, Sept. 21. A statement concerning tlie enrolment of electors was made in tlie House to-night by the Prime Minister. Following is the lull text of the statehient: — •' In response to representations made in the House recently that there are a number of persons who have failed to register under the compulsory provisions of tlie- Electoral Act passed last, session, it is announced that il such persons make application for registration, and satisfy the registrar of electors coneefood that neglect to register was Tint due to wilful default, the elector can rest assured that he will not bei prosecuted. To facilitate the registration of electors who are unable to the office of a registrar oi elec to i s or post office, it has been decided to give accredited persons who are engaged on field work’ by' various organisations authority to witness the .signatures of any persons -desiring to register. Til addition, police officers will also have full authority to witness signatures i-n country districts. It is expected that this arrangement will he of great help to those not having an . opportunity of going before a registrar of a postmaster.
