OVERSEER'S REPORT EGR southern i:mixes. Cheltenliam R iding.—Surfaceman has been working on Harrow’s line doing necessary repairs to waterfa hies and the road surface. The usual maintenance work on aii loads in this riding has received attention. I hope to make a start redecking the I pper Uoaconsfield bridge at an early date. Kiwitea Hiding—Culverts and nator tables have received attention and pot-holes repaired on Kimbolton road, it will be necessary to replace an old timber culvert on Kimbohon road with cement pipes, as the present culvert is in a very decayed condition. Wuitmia Hiding.- The surfacemen have been engaged a good deal of their time widening corners on die Rangitikei Valiev road and have made fair progress. All the usual maintenance work has .received attention. 1

Uugo Riding.—The roadman lias attended to all necessary surface work throughout this riding. A new 1.2. m, pipe culvert inis been put in on .Sinclairs line to replace an old broken one. A start lias been made widening the tilling on Waituna hilt and if weather conditions improve I hope to have most ui this work completed by the next meeting. Kimholton Riding. -During this month 7IP cubic yards of metal have been delivered on the main Rangiwahia, road by the dump trucks and 40 yards on the branch road at an nverage cost of on (id jier yard. On acv eminl of the recent spell of wet weather it is very doubtful if we can continue carting any more-'metal this season, as the road surlace is getting too soft lor heavy traffic.' The niotalling gang are now engaged widening and improving bad corners. The stone groyne to protect the Council's property near Apiti bridge has-been completed and is proving very sal is* factory, the total cost of the work being approximately CG3. As if is absolutely necessary that all new metal in this riding should he trimmed with the grader, I suggest that immediate provision be made for the purchase of a tractor or soinehnore horses so ns to be able to put the grader in commission without delay.
