At the Palmerston Rotary Clubs lunch to-day the noted Scotch singer. AH William Heughan and Airs Heughan were the guests of honour. AH Heughan delivered a lecturette on “Scottish Folklore” and sang two folk songs. Rev. Jus. Paterson, who was fordo years minister of Si. John s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, today celebrates his Doth birthday. He was horn at Kirkoswaldi, Ayrshire, studied at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. TTe went, to "Wellington in IROB. and resigned Ins charge in 1903. Cabled information has just been received from England which advises that the Right Hon. Viscount Loverlndine has been appointed Governor of Lever Brothers. Ali;. I'. D’Arey Cooper has been appointed Chairman ol Directors, whilst Messrs Harold Greenhaigh and John McDowell have been appointed vicechairmen.
Air William Heuglmn and bis company wen* entertained by Feilding citizens at the Beresford tea rooms yesterday afternoon. Tlie Mayor (Mr W. Car'thew) extended a hearty welcome to Air Heughan on his return to Feilding. Replying. Air Heughan gave a particularly interesting talk on old folk songs, with a tribute to the wandering minstrels who composed them. Concluding, he said lie had thoroughly enjoyed his tour of New Zealand.
There was a large attendance in the Awahuri Hall last night. the occasion being a farewell social to Air and Airs Cleaver, after 12 years’ residence. Al r Cleaver, who was also the local postmaster, was presented by the suppliers with a wallet containing Coo and a letter ol appreciation of his services as manager ol the Awahuri Dairy Factory, and Airs Cleaver received two handsome rugs. In addition the Rifle Club, presented the guests with a silver .tea service. At the Kiwitea County Council yesterday the following motion was carried, proposed by Crs. L. T. AleLean and W. Hair: That this Council representing the inhabitants of the county of Iviwiten desires to place on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the Dominion and the Empire generally by the late Prime Alinister. tlie Right Hon. AY. F. Afnssey, P.C.. and deplores the loss ol a great Imperial statesman.
