St. Paul's Hall was well idled last night for the elocutionary recital of the Rev. John Paterson, of Wanganui, given at the request of the ladies of the P.W.M.U. The Rev. Thos. Miller presided. It was the unanimous opinion that it was the greatest treat ever offered to Feikling folks.
Mr Paterson has the true spirit ol recital, and a wonderful control of voice for the effective toning of studied speech. There were also offer?A valuable lessons for students in phrasing .in declamatory work, and in word-painting. The elocutionist offered such contrasts as "The Bells" and "The Last Hymn," as the orations of Brutus and Marc Antony, a.s "The Charge of the Light Brigade" and "The Obituary Poet," as "Not Understood" and the humour of ArterriUs Wan"'. For two full hours Mr Paterson kept hi audience enthralled and he well deserved the culogium of Mr Hugh Mefntryro when moving a vote of thanks carried by acclamation.
