A. Sydney cable message announces the death of the Hon. James Cannon, K.C., M.L.C., ,aged 64. years. Mr P. F. Lollard, Minister for Internal Affairs, is confined to his home in Wellington* through iriftu&nza.
Mr Edward Smith, of Auckland, has been appointed examiner in materia medica for the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand.
Out of 12 applicants, Mr R Cox, of Kurri Kurri, N.S.W., , has been selected a.s conductor of the Hastings Citizens' Band.

Miss Martha. Root, a grand-daugh-ter of Senator Elihu Root, the famous: American diplomat and statesman, was the guest of the Wellington' Pioneer Club this week. Lord and Lady Jelliooe have arranged to leave Wellington next Monday to pay a number' of farewell visits in the South Island. They will return on the 22nd inst.
Mr J. Muir Barr has just retired from the managership of the Auckland Savings Bank, after 46 years' service. Mr Clement Hartley, who has 43 years' service to Ins credit, has been appointed to succeed ■Mr Barr.
Mr Ferguson Haswell, who lost his life at Waipukurau on Monday through an accident which happened while he was engaged on building construction, was a former resident of Feilding. He was married to Miss Edelston, also of Feilding, 14 years ago, and leaves a widow and four children, the oldest of whom is 12 years of age.
Sir Ernest Rutherford, of the Cavendish laboratory of Cambridge University, and Mr J. W. Joynt, M.A.. as the result of an invitation signed by the Duke of Devonshire as Chancellor of the University of New Zealand have been appended to represent New Zealand at the jubilee of the Yorkshire. College of Science and the eonfing of age of the Leeds University, which is to be celebrated from December 15 to 20.
The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday of Mrs Annie Bundle, aged 76, wife of Mr Charles Rundle, Of New Plymouth, thus causing another gap in the line of those resfdents of New Plymouth whose connection with Taranaki dales back to the days before, the Maori War. A faithful church worker (says the Taranaki Herald) Mrs Rundle «\is organist and Sunday School teacher in the Primitive Methodist Church for many years, and also was a Sunday School teacher in the Church of England. Much sorrow will be felt at her unexpected death and sympathy will go out to the relatives. She is survived by her husband and Messrs Charles Fletcher Rundle (Johannesburg), Victor Rundle (Wairoa), Mrs Christenson (Kimbolton), Mrs Rtrombom (New Plymouth), Mrs T. B. Kay (Auckland), and Miss E. IT. Rundle (New Plymouth).
