! Papers tabled in the Assembly with reference to the sale of the sawmills until recently run as a State enterprise contain some remarkable allegations regarding the alleged powerful timber combine. According to these allegations the grip of the combine held on the consumers of timber in New South Wales is shown by the fact that the New Zealand Government obtains similar timber as supplied the New South Wales Railway Commissioners at- 3s to 7s per hundred feet lower landed at New Zenland ports, than paid by the Commissioners at Sydney.
