SOME LOCAL NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the M/angaweka charge of the Presbyterian Church was held here on Wednesday last, coemmitte.emen from*, all branches being present. .During: the evening a much appreciated concert was. held in the hall. Musical and elocutionary items were given by the following: Miss C. Martin* Kbvfer■ture), Mises Phyn (duets), Mr and Mrs Rimmer (duets), Miss ySedilon (songs), Mrs W. Boshier and Miss Donkin (accompanists), Miss Young (song), Mr Fair, Miss N. Meads and Miss A. Boshier (recitations),-Mr K. Perry and Master H. Saywell '(.songs). The finances of the local church were considerably benefited by the door receipts. An effort is being made locally, to get a longer service at the telephone 'exchange as many subscribers find they are unable to do all their business between the hours of 9 and 5. A further 10 subscribers from the s TfarGw<{trowa district have decided to join up, and it would not need many more to bring the total number up to 50, when we would be entitled to additional benefits. '-. .•■;.:; The fthahine Scliool Committee held their annual dance in aidof the 'prize 'fund on Friday evening. Although the weather had not, been conducive to going out during ;the day the evening was ideal. Visitors were present from Mangaweka, Kawhatau, and Rangiwahia, the hall being well filled. Mr H. K. Fagan 'supplied the major part of the «mu'sic, whilst Messrs W. Sullivan and, E. Pearson had control of the dancing. The final of a series of oiichre|t(jrtirnn'ments, whereby the local .library 'has been placed in a much better financial position, took place on Wednesday night. Miss L. 'Boshier and Mr C. F. Meads gained prizes given by Mrs A. Morgan and Miss. J. Rose for the highest aggregate ot games for the series. The - respective trophies were a manicure set and a pair of jugs. Miss 0. M'eKinnon and Master R. Carey were awarded appropriate tokens for winning at' the other end. For [the evening Mr Leo. Rogers c-irne first among the men and Miss M. Parker the ladies, Miss McKinnon and Mr D. Saywell gaining consolation prizes. The tournaments will.' be continued 'in aid df a Chr|stinas fund tree, v . '••;)!;
