J.co (Auckland East) gave notice to ask tlic Prime Minister on next sitting day whether, in view ol the difficulty of getting a Governor-Gen-eral from overseas at a salary of £7-500, he would inquire into the advisability of appointing a Governor from among the citizens of New Zealand. “J will answer the question right away,” stated Mr Massey. “J would just like to say I have no intention of doing anything of the sort. (Hear, hear.) The list available in Britain is nob nearly exhausted, and X feel certain that within the next few days a particularly eligible man will have been appointed to the high position of Governor-General of New Zealand.”
