THE SOUDAN TROUBLE.

FIGHTING 'J'LANES ARRIVE

(By Electric Cable—Copyright.) Aust. and N.i-j. Cnoi«r Association) London, Aug. 19.

The reports that martial law has been proclaimed at Port Soudan ia so far unconfirmed. It is pointed out that the Anglo-Egyptian Convention of 1889 provided for the Soudan to remain under martial law unless otherwise determined. This provision, so far as is ascertainable, has not been cancelled.

Four lighting aeroplanes arrived at Khartoum this morning. Four others are remaining at Baar. Nine arrests were made at Port fan dan yesterday in connection with minor disturbances, which the police easily controlled.
