A startling example of the financial difficulties with which farmers are faced at the present time is afforded by recent events in the Whangamornona district, where during the month of June, six settlers wore compelled to wo Ik off their farms.
The remaining settlers are in many cases in difficulties also, and their condition is so serious that a deputation wont to Wellington on Tuesday to endeavour to induce the Government to render some assistance, such as the waiving of arrears of rent and interest. .If sympathetic treatment is accorded by the Government, the settlers in question are. hopeful of lK?ing able to carry on.
