FIRE IN BOOT FACTORY

(Per P.'ess Association.') Wellington, Feb. 10

At 1.40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, a. (ire broke out on the top of Messrs Hannah's new boot factory in Leeds Street. The lire brigade quickly appeared on the scene, bowever, and by 0.10 the outbreak was completely suppressed. Mr Hannah stated that the factory and contents were insured for 070,000 to 080,000, but could not state from memory the exact amount in comparison to the insurance.* The origin of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to be due to a righted cigarette butt being swept up in the sehaps of lenher on the top floor, which were not carried outside, as thev should, have been.

A large crowd congregated, and as the brigade had. to run the hose across Manners Street, tram traffic there was held up and had to he diverted to Cuba Street.
