Then; were big crowds at the nightly engagements, and the contest playing was hugely enjoyed. The, Foilding Hand eauie out of the competitions splendidly, even with flying colours, when all the disabilities under which the Band lias been carried on during recent years are considered. Despite the fact that the Band is one of Feilding's oldest and most valued institutions as will be found recorded in the Star's Jubilee. Supplement containing the history of the town':; development, there have always been difficulties. These have included gaps created by the losses of bandmaster and playing members. l.'ndev the circumstances, therefore, the Band is to be warmly and deservedly congratulated upon its achievements lest week at the contest against well organised bands from larger centres. Especially 'would we extend thanks And congratulations to Bandmaster It. P. Ilaybittle. This veteran has always been the mainstay of the hand. Whenever others failed in Hie wedding of l,he baton, Mr Haybittle was never found amongst the missing. And that lie can. still do good work'as conductor was proved by Ids scores last week. It is to be hoped that the organisation which di I so well 'last week at the contests will be aole"to keep together, for the delight and entertainment of the many Peilding folks who are partial to brass band music. t . . :
