(Per Press Association.) Auckland, May 22. In the Police Court, Edward Jack Grower, charged with the theft of jewellery and cash totalling £56 10s from a private house during the owner’s absence, said he was a ship’s officer. He was paid off from the Tainiii at Wellington. Being hard up, he. called on Mrs Hewitt to get a loan. As nobody was in tho house, ho was tempted to steal tho rings and money. When arrested, he - had a loaded revolver in his trunk. Accused, who pleaded guilty, was remanded to Wellington, pending other charges, for sentence. For being illegally in possession of. firearms, he was fined £SO, or three months’ imprisonment.
