THE SHOOTING SEASON.

SPORT NEAR TE AROHA. Te Aroha, May 19. . Sportsmen report that the district is fairly clear of pheasants this year, except'on forbidden ground. Quail is fairly plentiful in some localities, but very hard to approach. Several fairly good bags of duck were obtained during the first 10 days of tho season, but now the bags are much lighter. The opinion is expressed by experienced duck shooters that the present season was unfavourable, because there arc not the large areas of surface water lying about as in former years. The best lesults seem to have been obtained down toward the Awaiti and near tho junction of the Waitoa and Piako Rivers.
