APITI
FOOTBALL AND STALKING. (From Our Own Correspondent). On Thursday night the members of the Apiti Football Club held a social and dance, which was a great success socially and financially—so much so that it is decided to hold one every fortnight.. Tho very active President, Mr Jaspers, with tho assistance of Messrs Osborne and Watson, spent a good deal of time in working up the floor the previous night, so that it was in first class order. The music, also good, was given gratis by Messrs Evans and M. Bennett, extras being played by Misses Cummerfield, Cawood (2), and Mrs Fowells. A word of mention should be made of the ladies who supplied the oupper, as there is a- certain amount of extra, trouble and expense attached to this part of the entertainment, and the appreciation repaid them .to a great extent for their trouble. Mesdames Jasper, Hooper, Osborne, Vail Cantwell and Cummerfield provided the supper. ii-i The season for deer stalking Has been a great success as far as Apiti sportsmen are concerned, some six or seven fine heads having been secured. Some of the outside parties were not so fortunate, having to return emptyhanded. However, one or two of the visitors thought that beautifully wild bush and gorge scenery around the ranges well repaid them for the trip. Thero are a good many young deer about, in fact, one or two farmers !are thinking they are a bit of a pest as some of them have taken a liking to their field turnips. A four-pointer was seen a few days ago just behind the Apiti township on the Oroua river, so that in a year or:two some good heads ought to bo secured around this district.
