The names of several gentlemen have been mentioned as possible candidates for the Patea seat in the Liberal interest at the next election. They include Mr W. Morrison, who has already twice contested the seat, Mr Collins (chairman of the Wanganui Education Board), Mr A. T. Christensen (chairman of the Patea Harbour Board), and Mr J. R. Corrigan (chairman of the Hawcra Dairy Company). Mr Charles Mclntyre has been reappointed a member of the Wellington Land Board. The election of the Public Service Appeal Board resulted as follows: Mr 11. C. Hulme, Lands and Survey Department, Wellington, 2604, elected; Mr C. do R. Andrews, Valuation Department, Invercargill, 2461, reelected; Mr J. H. Irvine, Government Printing Office, 1512; informal, 448. The total votes recorded were 4082, out of a roll of 6668. The annual conference of representatives of branches of the R.S.A. in tho Wellington district, hold in Palmerston North during the week-end, was attended by the following delegates : Messrs' B. J. Jacobs (president) and H. N. Cooke (treasurer) (Palmerston North), J. T. Fox (Fcilding), F. S. Lawrence (Marion), E. Lcnihan (Taihape), G. Mitchell, M.P., and A. B. Sievwright (AVellington), W. E. Williams (Hawera), C. E. Johnston (Waverley), W. H. Cunningham (Wanganui), H. E. Brabant (Waitara), R. St, J. Pedler (Wainawa), G. W, Duncan (Waipukurau), A. 11. Herbert (Ekctahuna), F. R. Beetham (Masterton) and Dr. Gow (Levin). There wore also present the following members of the district executive: Messrs H. B. Burdekin (vice-president) and C. Gomer (Hawera), R. J. F. Aldrich (Wellington), A. A. Fdrd (Hastings) and J. F. A. Hebenton (Masterton). Mr W. A. G. Skinner has been appointed Government Printer in succession to Sir Marcus Marks, who retires from the service at tho end of this month. The engagement, is announced of Miss Dorothy Abraham, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs R. S. Abraham, of “Risby,” Palmerston North, to Mr Laurence Slierriff, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. A. Slierriff, of Wanganui.
