FRUIT FOR EXPORT
TRAIL SHPIMENT MARKETED London, March 22. Tho first trial shipment of Austalian soft fruits by the Moreton Bay has been delivered at Covent Garden. The shipment is generally regarded as a success, though probably a third would be wastage, mostly due to overchilling or over-ripeness and packing, both of which defects could l>e remedied. Despite the excessive wastage a. profitable shipment is practically certain. This will be due to tho fancy prices obtained for choice pears, nectarines and egg plums. The lessons of the experiment are that apricots are a complete failure. Peaches are a doubtful commercial proposition on account of their _oxtreme delicacy, though the Victorians were better than the South Australians. The pears and plums were a great success, prices repectively being from 25s to 355, and from 25s tolOs a case for surprise varieties.
