FARMERS' SCHOOL.

THE WERAROA EXPERIMENT. Everything is progressing satisfactorily in connection with the insti notional school for farmers' ,t the Central Development Farm, W eran-i. Among the far iters a; lending, the scrool are Mews Tri Whitehead (I'allTurtion North), A Sanson (Glen Oroua), F. W. and N. Gordon, E. M. and A. O. Mcyrick (Feikling), and M. Richardson (Tiakitahuna). Most of tho lectures are given indoors, and they are illustrated with lantern slides. The first lecture was given on Monday evening by Mr S. Clayn, of the dairy division of tho Department of Agriculture, on herd testing. On Tuesday morning, Dr. Cockayne, he Government Biologist, lectured on the feeding of dairy cows and a lecture on lime and liming by Mr F. W. Greenwood, instructor; in agriculture, followed. The making and care of ensilage was a subject that was dealt with by Mr McCulloch, tho farm manager. In tho afternoon tho farmers assembled for a tour of the fields for the purpose of hearing Dr. Cockayne's observations on tho various types of pasture met with. In the evening Mr E. B. Levy, assistant biologist, discoursed on the grasslands of New Zealand. On Wednesday morning Mr W. C. Collins lectured on the points and diseases of draught horses and later conducted an autopsy on the body of a cow. Other lectures during the day were •Rational Methods of Dairy Farm Cropping" (Dr Cockayne), "Principles of Pasture Establishment" (Mr Levy), "Swine Husbandry" (Mr K. W. Obrringd), "Farm Insects" (Mr D. Miller, Government Entomoiogist). During the morning a demonstration of various types of ploughing, showing the methods to bo adopted most advantageously on different types of soil, was conducted with a tractor and a four-horse team under the direction of Mr McCulloch and the farm foreman (Mr W. B. Ward).
