RONGOTEA.

THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW. The autumn show of the Rongot-ea Horticultural Society was held on Wednesday. The President, Mr L. H. Yarrell, in his opening remarks', pointed out that if the young people of the district, were constrained to take an interest in the various branches of horticulture, which' the society catered for, and if they could grow more flowers or vegetables where only one grew last year, then the objects for which the show oxisted were realised. Mr E. Newman, M.P., congratulated the president and secretary and all interested on the success of tho show, and had much pleasure in formally declaring it open. Special mention is made in the Standard of the fine display of chrysanthemums exhibited .by Master Ray Will, tile very fine lot of peony-flow-ered dahlias exhibited by Mrs H. Lancaster, the art and fancy classes, and the root crops standard of previous years was well sustained. With reference to the Government Fields Department’s competitions, which were judged by Mr Deem, much success was attained. Mr Deem spoke of the pleasure it afforded him to come and judge the classes. He was pleased with the. excellence of the crops, particularly the lucerne of Mr F. J. Boddy, of the Kopane, to whim lie awarded the maximum number of points. The swedes and mangolds were really good and he. hoped to see even larger entries next year. Ho believed these competitions would be productive of much good to farmers in general. The following were tho awards in the Government fields competitions: Swedes, half an acre: W. Sandorcock I, Mr Montgomery 2. Mangolds: E. J. Morgan 1, N. Knight 2, F. Flyn 3, W. Crouoher 3, R. Will 5. Lucerne, one year: F. O. Burgess 1, Johnson Bros. 2. Lucerne, old: F. J. Body 1 (possible obtained), J. Howl 2, - N. Whinter 3, J. Florance 4.
