SHOCKING SUICIDE. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, March 27. John Bell, aged G2 years, who conducted a second-hand furnishing business in South Dunedin, was found sitting in a chair with the left side of liig head blown away and with tlio barrel of a shotgun lying on liis chest whilst the butt was supported by a sewing machine. Deceased, who leaves a wife and daughter, had been in ill health, for months, with occasional periods of depression. EGMONT SPRING SHOW. Ilawera, March 27. A large meeting of members of the Egmont Agricultural and -Pastoral Association decided to revert, to the Spring Show. Onlv four voted against the change. The date of ibis year’s Spring fixture was not decided. • FOXTON’S VISITATION. Foxton, March 27. A Wellington car containing seven persons, including two woinen, collided with a local car at the intersection of Norbian and Russell streets on Saturday evening. The Wellington car turned over twice and the occupants were penned in. Sinclair, the driver, had an arm badly cut. The hood being up saved more serious consequences. Both cars were badly damaged. TWO MEN DROWNED. A drowning fatality occurred at Robinson’s Lake yesterday alternoon, when Samuel Baker and Peter Baker, brothers, aged 2G and 24 years, both married, were drowned while fishing in a boat for eels. They were accompanied by a lad named John Gupwell. The boat swamped, and Sam Baker was assisting the boy when ho saw lus brother in difficulties and swam back to him. Both disappeared. Ihe bodies have not yet been recovered. DEATH OF MAYOR. - Dunedin, March 27. Obituary.—J. M. Stevenson, Mayor of Port Chalmers. Mr Stevenson was well known in yachting circles. ANOTHER TRAGEDY. Waimato, Mar. 27. James "Morrison, married, with three children, was found dead on the road two miles from his residence on Sunday morning. A rifle was alongside the body. He had been in ill-hoaltli for some time.
