THE NEW TARIFF BILL.
BILL NOW READY. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, September 7. The Tariff Commission's work has been completed. The new tariff, subject to its approval by Cabinet, is now ready for presentation to Parliament as soon as the House is ready to receive it. No information as to the proposals can be rnado public liefore the Bill is presentee!, as this might lead to a rush of goods from bond in order to escape any higher duties. Wiien the Hill is presented ■to Parliament it comes into operation at once, but should any of the duties be altered in the passage of the Hill through the House importers are entitled fo a refund of the extra amount which they have paid. No indication has yet- been given even of the underlying principles which will be embodied in the tariff beyond the statement by the Prime Minister that the tariff which he would wish to see adopted was an extension of the principle of Imperial preference.
