METHODISM'S CENTENARY.

RAISING THE SUM OF £40,000

The centenary of Methodism in New Zealand falls on January 22, 1922, the first minister, the Rev. S. Leigh, having landed at Whangaroa on January 22, 1822. The matter of properly celebrating the event -was discussed by the District Synod in Auckland. It was decided to endeavour to bring about a great spiritual awakening to make family worship general, and establish a league of prayer. Celebrations of the first landing are to be held at Whangaroa and other centres throughout the Dominion. An effort will be made to raise the sum of £40,000 to mark the centenary. The Rev. A. C Lawry was appointed general secretary, and the Revs. W. A. Sinclair and T. G. Brooks organising secretaries. The Rev. C. H. Olds, organiser of the young people's department, is to co-operate. Arrangements were also made for a guarantee fund for the. .publication of a history of Methodism which is being written
