MAN SHOOTS HIS MATE. (Per Press Association.) Carterton, Nov. 22.. *A sensational shooting affray took place in Carter ton on Saturday nighi m a whare of one room (12 x 8), occu- , pied by Frederick Thompson, who, with Anthony Rzoska, was employed by the Wairarapa South County Council. They had been together on Saturday afternoon, and about 7.30 o'clock they adjournel to the whare in company with J. Rzoska (a cousin), Ed-, ward Crossland, and W. Spacer. Thompson and Rzoska quarrelled. The latter took off his coat to fight, and it is, alleged that Thompson, drew; & revolver and fired point blank at a> distance or a few feet. . The bullet entered (Rzoska's neck on. the loft side and emerged on. the rgiht side. The patient was removed to the Grey town Hospital in a serious condition, his chance of recovery today being reported to be slight. Thompson was arrested. Later. I Thompson was charged with at-< ! tempted murder this morning, and remanded forn>week. No bail was asked for. Counsel for accused stated thatj Thompson, who was .an ex-policeman, wished to say that he had been drinking heavily.for some time. Rzosbo,' had talked fight, and-in the heat of the moment he (accused) had picked' up a revolver and fired. Thompson expressed sorrow for the act.
