VERBAL GAS AND POISON GAS. While the League of Nations is actually in session at Geneva, the Prune Minister of Great Britain admits that tho Government is continuing experiments Avith poison gas. It is a sad commentary on the Covenant of the League. Still, if one nation will use poison gas as a war weapon, they will ?ah be compelled to do so, as Mr Lloyd George explains. It is the world's greatest hope that International conferences will win out in the end as against the sword, gunpowder &nd poison gas. All those touched with the sacredness-and dignity of. life will hope that the Bureau of the League of Nations will soon take the place of deadly weapons in the settlement of international difficulties. One bright paragraph in this. week's cabled news is the information that the French Government has concluded that the period for compulsory military service may be reduced to 18 months. A sure sign that the leaven of tho League is leavening tho lump.
