Christeliurch, November 10. The quietness existing for some time in the grain and produce market has been aggravated during the holidays, business being practically at a standstill. The expected activity in the oat market as a result of the opening of the trade with the ; Old Country has not materialised. Ihe chaff market is lifeless, and £o a ton at country stations fill y covers the oilers. The North Island demand lias practically disappeared. Practically all subsidiary lines have been quiet during the past fortnight. The only exception is in the case of perennial rye a substantial hue ot which was sold for tho south at 7s 6d per bushel.
