Opinion in authoritative British circles, concerning the action of the Government in waiving the- right to attach Germaji property in the United Kingdom, is that there is nothing in it inconsistent with perfect loyalty to the Treaty of Versailles, ancf it in nowise implies a rerevision or modification of the Treaty. The only effect or the renunciation, will be to free international commerce from restrictions and uncertainties. , In the Australian House of Representatives, Mr Hughes, replying to a question, said that there was no intention of opening Australian markets to the Germans, 'but Germany would get a fair deal. The Persian Cossacks are demoralised, and have retreated behind the British lines. The British troops are fighting the Bolsheviks on the Kazvin and Hesht road. Germany is handing to France the flags captured from Napoleon, as compensation for the flags taken in 1870, which the German students destroyefl after the Versailles Treaty had been signed. The Council of the League of Nations are further attempting to settle the Polish-Lithuanian trouble, and are rehearsing representatives of both countries to-day. The Chancellor of the Reichstag at Berlin drew attention to the growth of French militarism, which he stated, with the support of Belgium and Holland, was striving for predominance on the Continent. He strongly condemned the teachings of the Russian terrorists, amid loud opSosition from the Left. He warned ermans professing faith in the Moscow doctrines, not to exceed the limits of the law.
