HIGH COMMISSIONER'S -CABLED

REPORT

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated October 23, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : —

Meat.—English trade dull at average prices. Beef Is 3 Id, mutton Is 9d, lamb 2s per lb. Imported meat constitutes 75 per cent, of supplies offered in the markets. Argentine chilled beef is in active demand at fulL price. Hinds Is, fores 8d per ih. Australian, best quality ox beef is selling at 10-id, for hmds and (_d for lores . Only Neiv Zealand cowbeef offered for sale~at 9d, and per lb, hinds and fores respectively. New Zealand, mutton and lamb continue in active demand at maximum

Butter.--Average price is English £24 7s per cut. (4s 4*d per lb), Irish vcrv limited supply a.t £24 15s to £25 10s" per cwt (4s 5d to 4s Old per lb), 'but, high' price is checking demand.
