FRENCH RAILWAY THIEVES
j CLEVER SCHEME EXPUStU
LONDON, Sept. 26
j A Paris message recounts how raill way detectives liave at length uneurth«ed a vast organisation of thieves, who ■ have' long specialised in stealing entire ; waggon loads of inerchancase uy the use oi forged papers. t The gang employed the simplest means. Thus, a, label on a waggon load of cloth destined from Havre to itouen, last week, was changed at the last moment before the train started, by tho substitution of a fresh label with a new address for a Paris station, and an imaginary consignee. , A few days later a confederate appeared at the Paris station and verified the waggon, and the oihcials handed over the contents against a forged order. In another recent case, two waggon loads of sugar- were similarly stolen, and a huge profit was realised. Some arrests have been made.
