She was born there before Hone Heke's war, being one of those Avho escaped down the river with muffled oars, and she also remembered''the burning,, of Koreraka, when the flagstaff fliere was cut down by the rebels. She was a great Maori scholar, and was connected with'missionary .work all hei life. In September, 1918, Mr and Mrs Baker" celebrated their golden wedding.
