London, June 11. In the ladies' golf final, Miss Cecil Leitch was four up on Miss Joyce Wethered afe> the seventh, and maintained it to the twenty-second. She was two up --at. the twenty-ninth. Miss Joyce Wethered is eighteen years old, and a sister of the Oxford goli captain. Owing to the presence of the American, Gardner, the amateur golf final attracted more public interest than in any year since Travis won it in 1904. In a stem ding-dong struggle, Gardner w.as two up at the fourth, ah square at the ninth; led to the eleventh ;• all square at the twelfth; two up' at the eighteenth, aU square at the twenty-third. Tolley then led for the first time. He was two up at the twenty-seventh, three up at the thirtysecond, one up at the thirty-fourth, all square at the thirty-sixth, and Tolley won the thirty-seventh. Tolley, who is aged twenty-four, is six feet, and weighs 14 stone. He began golf in his boyhood, was an officer in a tank corps, won the Military Cross, and was' a prisoner in Germany for a year. . He distinguished himself in gold at Oxford, and is a tremendous driver.
