PALESTINE MANDATE.
THE NEW POLICY. GOOD TIME FOR THE JEWS. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Renter.) (Received June 14, 11.45 a.m.) London, June 13. The Right Hon. Herbert Samuel has been appointed a Knight Grand Cross of tlie Order of the British Empire on his appointment as High Commissioner for Palestine. In his statement of policy he said that complete religious liberty would b? maintained in Palestine. Sacred places would remain under the control •of the adherents of the respective religions. Civil administration of the country would be immediately established, the higher ranks consisting of British officials, and tho other ranks would bo open to the local population irrespective of creed. Order would.be firmly enforced and the economic development of the country actively promoted. Measures would be adopted to reconstruct the Jewish national and home roads, railways, and harbours. Electric power would be provided, waste lands reclaimed, forests planted, malaria extirpated, industries in towns and villages encouraged, and immigration developed.
