There was a large attendonce and the course was slightly holding. The totalisator handled £11,873, compared with £16,997 for the first day last year, af decrease of £5124. Hurdles.—Cymer (Tricklebank) 1, Crosswords 2, Hold Fox 3. Also starter : Rotat and Wairiri. Won by two lengths. Time, 3.51 1-5. Maiden Hack. l —Over There (Reed) 1, Anita 2, Waikohu 3.' Also started: Diabolic, Demlone, Golconda, Queens Up, Arbraoth, Whanoko, Mannikin, Mixup, Flywheel, Hautonga. Half a length each way. Time, 50 sees. Flying Handicap.—Orawai (McCarten) 1, Actifid 2, Shaki 3. Also started: Lionskin, Lord Ainslie. Won by a head. Time, 1.17. Gisborne Steeplechase.—Brunswidk (Poulgrain) 1, Fagot 2. The only starters. Won easily by, ten lengths. Time, 6.38. Hack Flat. —Glengyle (Jennings) 1, Teiki 2, Prince Randall 3. Also started: Persian King, Orateur, Thebes, Crevasse, Mumix. Won by a short head. Time, 1.31. Tramway Steeples \ —Juan (Horn) 1, Gay Boy 2, Con 3. Only starters. Won by five lengths. Time, 4.12. Winter Oats.—Cleft (S. Howard) and Orateur (McCarten), dead.heat, 1, Dribble 3. Also started: Acquittal, Patetonga. The third horse a length and a half from the winners. Time, 2.15. After the Flying Handicap the stewards held an inquiry into the running of Lionskin. After evidence was heard,jjt w,n»i,decid§d, that the stewards being"sßMeH |hfrt3).''H. Poulgntin had deliberately' pulled' Lionskin, he is disqualified for two years.
