The Federated Enginedrivers and Firemen's Association and electric light and gasworks employees have sent an ultimatum to the employers demanding increased wages, and stating that if this is not granted, they wjf cease work at midnight on Saturdey. If this threat is carried into effect it is estimated that 50,000 will be thrown idle the first week, as the factory enginedrivers belong to th© association. SYDNEY SHORT OF BREAD. Sydney, June 10. The wheat shortage is becoming more acute daily. Many mills in the j country and suburbs have closed. It jis expected that the remainder will follow suit, unless supplies speedily ! are brought from Victoria, as there ! nre only sufficient stocks to last another two or three days.
