FEILDING FIRE BOARD

ANNUAL STATUTORY MEETING

The annual meeting of the Feilding Fire Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers this morning. Mr G. J. Harford presided, and the other members present were Messrs Gill, ' .Robinson, VV. F. Bramwell,' aid E. H. (Fisher. , Mr Harford was re-elected chairman for the year. The Audit Departmont returned the balance-sheet for year ended June 30, 1919, duly certified. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. I have the honour to submit my report for the year ending June 8, 1920. The brigade had 7 calls during the year. Estimated value of property on which fires occurred: buildings £16,----200, contents £10,360, insurance on buildings £5530, contents £§500. Loss of property covered by insurance: Duildings £2870, .contents £3319, total fire loss for year £6189. ■ The present strength of the brigade \is as follows: Superintendent, Deputysuperintendent, and 21 men. I would ask the Board to accept the resignation of C. Belmer, and recommend A. Morris, D. Creighton, and C. H. Eichler as active members of the brigade. W. Knowles lias joined tip again on his return from active service. The following men are doing duty at the i Fire Station: S. Staples. D."S. Hazllett, and F. E. Pawson. The telephone has been put on to Foreman Reid's, Makino, which will be of great advantage to the brigade in case of fire in that vicinity. The principal plant in the Fire Station is as follows : 1 motor hose cart, 1 hand reel, 2500 feet of hose, 1 20ft ladder, 4 10ft 6in coupling ladders, 5 stand pipes, 7 branches, and 2 hand chemicals, all in good order. The plant at Makino consists of 1 hose reel, 350 ft of hose, 1 stand pipe, 2 branches, and. 2 9ft eoupliag ladders,' all in good order. Seventeen men are entitled to half-year's boot money. Inspector Hugo inspected' the brigade on May 2t). I may state that the motor got slightly scorched at Cobbe's fire, which could not be avoided. The discipline and , attendance of the brigade has been good. In conclusion, I desire to express by thanks to the Board for its kind consideration given to all matters for the welfare of the brigade. Report received, appointments confirmed. The personnel of the brigade is asfollows: Superintendent, W. Stringer; F. Groomi bridge; Foremen, D. Kitchen, and H. Reid; Secretary, H. R. Fitzgerald; Firemen, R. Farnsworth, F. E. Pawson, L. True, D. Thomas, A. N. Garforth S. Staples. E. Pine, E. H. Carman, T. S. Hazlett. G. H. McDeiv , mid, A. C. Beadle, T. Brook. L. D. Miller, C. A. Gray, A. Morris, D. Creighton, C. H. Eichler, W. Fowles. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. Mr Hugo reported on his recent inspection of the Brigade premises and the work of the firemen. He recommended certain additional plant for the .station. GENERAL. Accounts lainounting to £74 19e 3d were, passed for payment, and accounts " totalling £27 2s 3d paid since last meeting were a-pjjiovea. TJie annual subsidy, of £15 was voted to the •funds of the Brigade, and the Board also decided to procure the service medals and bars earned by firemen during'the year. It was decided to procure gas helmets and hoee repairing outfits. On the motion of Messrs Bramwell and Robinson, it was decided to install the telephone in the residence of the Deputy-Superintendent. ESTIMATES. The estimates for the year were adopted as follows: —wages and salaries £190, boot allowance £18, fire attendance £25, travelling expenses £15, telephones £22, insurance £38, interest £53 10s, printing and advertising £15, lighting £20, motor maintenance £20, repairs and sundries £6O,social fund £15, depreciation fire engine £50, hose £30, uniforms £40, total £611 10s.
