Valuable and interesting experiments have recently been carried out on the raising of a ship, the s.s Main, which was sunk by gunfire from a Jermaii submarine in Luce Bay, iouth of Scotland. The 1 salvage operuions were carried out by the AnIrossan Salvage Company, Glasgow, .vho undertook to test some flexible pontoons, designed and manufactured by Messrs Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness Kngland. With a little more experience of theso pontoens, the designers we confident that they can be increased in size, and it will then become possible'to tackle such "ships as the Lusitania
