QUEEN VICTORIA'S FATHER'S FIRST MARRIAGE.
In an obituary notice of the late Mr Laurent, one Hawera V.O.s grandfather, the Taranaki' Herald says: The old gentleman came of n well-known family of Picar<l y, with which tho Duko'of Kent, father ot Queen Victoria, contracted nn alliance. Tho Duko is stated to have legally married Mnclmno de St. Lnuront. Baroness de Kortison, a FrenchCanadian lady. The validity of the marriage was' not recognisel by the laws of England and he again married Princess Victoria Mary Louisa, of Saxe-Coburp, who became tho mother of Queen Victoria. The Duke was said to have left a son by his morganatic wife, and this son was known in Inter years as BrigadierGeneral Green. Mr Laurent came ot the family to which Madam do Laurent, Baroness de belonged
