HUGHES APPREHENSIVE
London, July 2. Sir Newton Moore entertained Mr. Hughes at luncheon at the House of Commons. Mr Hughes said lie viewed the industrial future of Britain with apprehension, and predicted the greatest trade war in history, adding that England was tho worst equipped nation to meet it. Australia paid the highest labour prices of any country in the world, yet they could beat England in tho world's coal markets if freight were rormal, not because the price of. labour was high or low, but" because of greater production. Ho urged England to realise that the question was not whether there be capitalism or no capitalism, .socialism or no socialism, but whether they would work or not work. Mr Hughes urged more rapid and cheaper means of communication and interchanges of ideas with the Dominions.
