General John Perching, tho Coin-nander-in-Chief of the American Ex>editionary Force (says tho Globe)

won the name of "Kitchener" Pershing when, with a small force, he broke the power of the Sultan of Jolo in an incredibly short time. His reward in promotion is said to outdistance the most brilliant, "discoveries" of the great war. When President Roosevelt advanced him over more than 800 seniors, he rose from the rank of captain to that of Briga-dier-Goneral at one step.
