A bar to the Military Cro.-.s lia.s been awarded to Captain James Doardou, D.5.0., M.C, Koy.il fusiliers, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duly. He is an Ashburton County man. His younger brother. Midshipman Percy Deardon, has also had some stirring adventures during the present, war. being on the. Queen Elizabeth when tliat battleship was operating around Gallipoli. Subsequently lie served on the Queen Mary, and was on board that ship during the battle of Jutland, when the vessePwas blown up. Midshipman Dearden was rescued by a fienuan destroyer, and -for IB months was n prisoner in Germany, and is now interned in Holland.
