"A GOOD POSITION."
A WALKEII AND A TALKER
An appellant at tho Appeal Board in Palmorston yesterilay, a young farmer from Apiti, expressed the opinion thai Captain Walker, the military representative, was keeping an elderly man out of a good position, and that ho (Captain Walker) should be on acti\ j servico. Captain Walker: What is this good position i have got?~You've got a good position and yet you are in the First Division. 1:o you know what I am getting for this good position?— No. Captain Walker said that if he came out of it £1000 to the bad, he would ■ consider himself fortunate. "I am giving my services for £3 10s per week, and let me assure you that J enlisted at the very first of the war, and was turned down. I have enlisted four times since, ami, notwithstanding all that, I gave up my practice a.s a solicitor to take up this very unpleasant job." Appellant admitted tho position was different from what he had understood. Captain Walker added that he was doing this unpleasant work for the sake of his country. He offered appellant £500 if he could get him (Captain Walker) to the trenches in France. He thought he would be able to acquit himself as well a.s the appellant. Appellant: I will be pleased to have yon for a mate.
