The United Press correspondent at Headquarters says tho Canadians occupied Jfllen dib 1/eauvctt-e, on tho southern edgo of Lens. Patrols advancing beyond tho Germans blow up a bridge across the Souchez river loading to the city. Canadian patrols entered the outskirts of Avion and are Hearing Morieourt. Tho troops pusliinit towards Lens, astrido the ArrasLens railway, captured a portion of the Avioii-Mciicourt switch line, with light losses. Tho Prussians holding tlio dugouts refused to surrender, and wero completely bombed out. The Germans aro resisting stubbornly in the coal mines between the forks of the ArrneLeus ami IJrocouH-Lens railways, but tlio situation is well iv hand. The British are touching Lens on three .sides. The enemy has been reduced to fighting from the ruins of tho burned city. Tho trerichce outside arc in our hands and the Germans' position is critical.

Sir Douglas Haig reports: The ©lieiny Fontaine les Croiselles. We repulsed an attack southward of tho Cojeul river. German raiders entered our trenches eastward of Vermel les, and were immediately ejected.
