PUBLIC WORKS EXPENDITURE.
Speaking to the Gorge Road deputation yesterday, the Hon Mr Fraser. Minister for Public Works, said ho did not believe it was a wise policy f n suspend public works expenditure dlogother oven iii wartime. The Dominion had ;i higjburdon of debt, to '•nrry and tho way to lighten tbe load was to increase production, and pro"ide moans of getting produce to the markets; but ho could not know yet what,; amount of money would* Im> placed at his disposal.. Most,_ of the loan- money to bo raised during the current financial year would be required for war purposes. The war was costing New Zealand at least a million a month, and the Government ■voitld not find it easy to raise money "or other purposes.
