TEACHERS' TRAINING COLLEGE
Tho AVanganui Education Board, in a letter to tho Otago Education Board, pointed out that tho question of tlio employment of pupil teachers and probationers, who, although qualified to enter the Training Coliego on completion of their term of service, failed to do so, had boon under consideration. Tho view taken by AVanganui Board was that, in fairness "to those who .did enter tho Training Coliego, those who failed to do so should not lie employed in the teaching service. It was known that a number who had been refused employment by the Wanganui Board had secured appointments in other education districts. The opinion of the Board was that, in tho interests of the "service, all pupil teachers and probationers should fake tho Training Coliego course, and it was thought, that if all Boards refused to employ those who wero not ex-Train-ing College* students, the difficulty that now existed in some districts in inducing trainees to enter the collogo would in time disappear. Thoro wore, of course, exceptional cases, in which exemption might bo granted., AVith the object of securing uniform action it was suggested that oach Board should (Irofore offering an appointment to an ox-pupil teacher or probationer vvbo was not an ex-Train--1 ing College student), obtain a report from the Board of tho district in which the applicant "•'•as trained, and refuse to employ the applicant if the report wan not satisfactory. Tin's communication was referred to tho senior inspector for "report.
