FLOOD EPISODES.
Napier papers report many unpleasant experiences of settlers during tho ICast Coast flood. Tho Telegraph says: Mr. F. Rhodes, who was out at Jns Koropiko property, had a narrow escape from drowning. He, in company with his son and Mr. and Mrs. Jack■ion, was stuck up in the house amirl stcadily-rieing waters. A boat rescued tho lady, but was unable to take tho other members of the .party, who wurv reduced to standing on tho furniture to keep their heads above water. It 'uid boon decided to make/ an attempt to swim.to a near-by barn at 8 o'clock f rescue! was not forthcoming by then, 'nit. fortunately for all concerned, the boat arrived at the house just about the iimo the attempt was to be made, and ho party was caved. In an attempt to ; avo four valuable cows that wero beng swept away by tho waters, Mr. "Rhodes nearly lost his life, but fortunately ho was prevailed upon to leave the cattlo to their fate. Mr. Rhodes s also a heavy loser. From his farm it Pakowhai 1500 sheet) have been lost. 1000 of which Mr. Rhodes had ■lrranged the sale of at £2 2s a head ■I short time ago. nnd at his small f iirm nt Tnrndale tho complete ,stock 'tf cattlo, pigs, and poultry has born lost.
