"peu i-i-E:-.; .\.>-oniATiON.l Auckland, June 24. Interviewed to-day, the Hon. Arthur Al'yers gave particulars *of the work of the Munitions and Supply Department dming the past year. Hestated that owing to the -prudent policy adopted in arranging for the accumulation of stocks in all important lines, it had been possible with great difficulty to obtain the supplies required. It was estimated, saiel the Minister, that the amount required for stores, supplies, drugs, etc., eltiring the calender year, 1917, would teach about £1,400,000. Already orelers have been olaceel to the value of nearly £700,000*. About a third-of the order has been placed in Wellington, Auckland. Oliristchurehj and Dunedin. The prices jiaiel eluring the past twelve month, show an increase on previous charges, but having regard to the improved quality and in many cases larger sizes of goods supplied, together with the increased difficulty in obtaining supplies, anel the higher wages paid, ho regarded tho result as satisfactory. As regards both clothing and general stores, the supplies, had been of very high quality
