An extraordinary case is reported of an American millionaire, James Slater, aged 56 years, who came to Franco a year ago with a young Dutch woman. They lived in a chateau, where the'*woman imprisoned Slater in a summer house, and subjected him to the most cruel treatment. She recently married tho chaffeur, and the pair forced Slater to sign cheques for several million francs. They were subsequently arrested on a chargo of swindling.
